For our special event this season, we return to the recently remodeled Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland to host two of the leading European string quartets in a joyous evening of octets. Rarely presented in the US, the Belcea (“The intelligence and honesty of the playing was as impressive as its energy and vehemence” — The New York Times) and Ébène (“A mix of soft elegance, joie de vivre and exquisite tuning — as gorgeous as any ensemble in recent memory” —The Strad Magazine) will perform Felix Mendelssohn’s famed Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20 and George Enescu’s seldom-heard Octet in C Major, Op. 7.
